Tony Cokes: If UR Reading This It's 2 Late, Vol III

ARGOS Center for the Autovisual Arts, Brussels

October 3 - December 20, 2020

This fall ARGOS presents If UR Reading This It's 2 Late, Vol. 3, prominent US-based artist Tony Cokes' first comprehensive exhibition in Belgium. In his work, Cokes powerfully brings together various elements: image, text and sound. This results in stimulating video works, in which questions about truth, social justice and capitalism become central., If UR Reading This It's 2 Late, Vol. 3 shows work by Cokes on pop and electronic music. The exhibition is named after a mixtape by Drake and emphasises 'mixing' in Cokes' work. The artist does so by quoting various authors: from Aretha Franklin to Morrissey, from Malcolm X to Louis Althusser. Bringing together text, image and sound, he creates powerful messages. Ones that provide analysis and reflection!
