Published on the occasion of Triple Solitaire, Caguiat’s 2024 solo presentation at Wesleyan University’s Zilkha Gallery, this limited-edition catalogue documents a sumptuous new body of work. The exhibition centers on a trio of expansive, frieze-like paintings that conjure worlds unto themselves, through numinous fields of latent imagery and dense planes of pooling color. An original essay by curator Benjamin Chaffee situates Caguiat’s sprawling canvases in a lineage of panoramic painting, from nineteenth-century attractions to Monet’s immersive landscapes to Richter’s mirrored monochromes. “His paintings absorb a certain nostalgia for the imagery or formats of the past while speculating on possible futures,” Chaffee writes, “trafficking in the sublime” but “with no pretense of illusion.”
Each saddle-stitched copy includes a bespoke envelope containing a reproduction of a 2025 print by the artist.
