Forest Road is a collection of ink, pencil, and watercolor sketches made by Sophie von Hellermann between 2006-2008. Using scrap paper and bits of old cardboard, von Hellerman spontaneously and unselfconsciously records the people, objects, and thoughts that capture her notice and demand further and immediate investigation. This she does with an economy of gestural marks that capture the human form and subtleties of expression, even when her subject is a wiggling, smiling baby. Each book features a different cover, hand-lettered in permanent marker. (The accompanying image depicts the book’s back cover and spine.) With an introduction by Megan Lang.
