SOPHIE VON HELLERMANN in Biographies of Modern Art: Collectors and Their Works

The exhibition Biographies of Modern Art: Collectors and Their Works introduces eight visionary collectors whose support helped shape the Brücke-Museum’s collection: art historian Rosa Schapire, art critic Max Osborn, collector Rosy Fischer, salonnière Elsa Glaser, economist Hans Heymann and his brother, writer Walther Heymann, the multifaceted Hugo Simon, and art dealer Victor Wallerstein. Each contributed uniquely to the rise of the Brücke group.

SOPHIE VON HELLERMANN’s site-specific mural, The Collectors, created for this exhibition, vividly reimagines the lives and legacies of these collectors. Her signature use of bold colors and fluid brushstrokes brings their stories and contributions back to life, merging the collectors' personal histories with the artwork they championed. Complemented by interviews with descendants and experts, this installation offers a dynamic, contemporary view of their lasting influence on modern art.
