Unstable Media in the 21st Century: Highlights from the Centre Pompidou New Media Collection

Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg
Gallery of Contemporary Art

November 20, 2026 – May 2, 2027

Unstable Media in the 21st Century examines some of the most radical voices in media art today, highlighting 40 key works from the Centre Pompidou’s pioneering New Media Collection. Focusing on the conceptual category of "new media" and its rapid succession of changing forms, the exhibition explores how artists have both altered and appropriated media forms of the past decades.

The exhibition will prominently feature Harun Farocki's Parallel I-IV (2014), the artist's landmark multi-channel video installation which traces computer graphics from its early experimental stages to its current state of hyper-mimesis. Organized collaboratively by the Centre Pompidou and the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the exhibition marks a special opportunity to present Farocki's work alongside others in the Centre Pompidou's collection while the museum undergoes multi-year renovations.
